Understanding the Disabled Facilities Grant
Are you looking into home adaptations for disabled people? Disabled Facilities Grants are a crucial resource. Learn what it covers and how to apply.
Effortlessly unlock the accessible facilities you need, wherever you are in the UK.
The RADAR Key grants access to over 10,000 locked disabled toilets throughout the UK. These keys are used by approximately 400 local authorities. The RADAR Key Scheme helps prevent vandalism and misuse of disabled toilets, while also making them easily accessible to those who require them. The key costs just £5.75 for National Disability Card holders (zero VAT).
Easily add to your existing keys or connect to a National Disability Card lanyard.
Some alternatives are only 3 lever lock keys, which are less reliable and can cause harm to locks. Our 5 lever mortice lock keys are more reliable and dependable.
Easily identifiable in signature blue, the smooth ergonomic handle allows for maximum grip and leverage, whilst not being cold to touch.
Our keys are made by the manufacturer of RADAR locks and include the blue heart-shaped handle to distinguish it from inferior copies.
Now you no longer have to wait in the queue to use facilities that may not be clean or adapted to your needs. Get access to the facilities you need, when you need them.
Changing Places are accessible toilets with additional features such as extra space, an adult changing bench, and a hoist. Typically, Changing Places require a RADAR Key for access, although some may require special arrangements with the venue they are located in.
Some accessible countryside gates require a RADAR Key for access. They often feature an "H" frame with a rectangular enclosure for use by mobility scooters and wheelchair users.
Avoid any potential embarrassment by checking first that the accessible toilet is unoccupied. Most accessible toilets do lock from the inside, but occasionally the occupier may have forgotten to lock the door, meaning your RADAR Key will still open it.
Refrain from judging whether a person should or should not be using an accessible toilet, as not all disabilities are visible to others. A variety of conditions and issues, some obvious and some hidden, may necessitate the use of an accessible toilet.
Don’t use an accessible toilet without a legitimate reason. This may prevent individuals with disabilities from accessing the facilities they need, potentially causing discomfort, distress, or embarrassment. For this reason, we only offer RADAR Keys to our card holders, whose disability or carer status we have verified.
